I’m Alex Kaplan, a Headshot Photographer and videographer based in New Milford, NJ, serving Northern.
Most people book a headshot with the same quiet dread. They’ve seen photos of themselves they don’t like.
Most of the people I photograph are professionals across New York City and New Jersey, so if you’re looking for a corporate headshot photographer in NYC or NJ, this will give you a clear idea of how the process works.
They’ve been putting this off. Now a deadline has shown up, a new role, a speaking gig, a website that can’t launch with the photo they have, and they’re finally doing something about it.
If that’s you, this page is for you. Not a sales pitch. Just a clear walk-through.
If you already know you just need to get this done, you can check availability and book a corporate headshot session with me.
If not, keep reading. This will give you a clear picture of what actually happens in a corporate headshot session, from start to finish.

A corporate headshot session is straightforward and efficient. Here’s what to expect:
That’s the entire process. No drawn-out session. No guesswork.
If that’s all you needed to know, you can see availability and book your session with me.
Because a corporate headshot is a specific job with a specific deliverable.
You need one or two clean, confident images of yourself for LinkedIn, your company bio, and your press kit. That’s the job.
Dragging it out for an hour doesn’t make the photos better. It makes them worse. You get tired. You get stiff. You start overthinking.
Thirty years of doing this tells me the same thing every time: the best frames almost always come in the first fifteen minutes. After that, you’re just picking from the ones we already have.
If efficiency matters to you, that’s exactly how I run these sessions.

Most of what makes a session go well happens before you show up.
When you book, I will send you a prep guide. It answers the questions most people are too polite to ask. What to wear. What not to wear. When to get a haircut. What to do about the shirt you like but have never photographed well in.
The guide is short. You read it once. You don’t need to study it.
A couple of days before the session, you’ll get one more email from me. It includes time, location, and a simple line: let me know if anything comes up. That’s it.
If you’re ready to move forward, you can check availability and book directly with me.
Solid colors. Nothing loud. Something you’d wear to an important meeting with someone you respect.
If you’re unsure between two options, bring both. It takes thirty seconds to change, and you’ll know which one works when you see it.
Avoid logos, busy patterns, and anything you bought specifically for the shoot but haven’t worn yet.
Most people overthink this. Don’t.
You walk in. The first thing I do is not pick up a camera.
We talk for a minute or two. About what you do. Where these photos are going- LinkedIn, website, press kit. Whether you want to come across as more authoritative, more approachable, or somewhere in between.
While we’re talking, I’m already working.
Most of the people I photograph are working professionals, so these sessions are built to be efficient and easy to fit into a workday.
This part is quick. The goal is to get you settled without giving you time to overthink it.
This is where most of the 15 to 20 minutes goes.
I direct clearly. I’ll tell you where to put your chin, what to do with your hands, how to angle your shoulders.
Not because you can’t figure it out, but because you shouldn’t have to.
You don’t need to guess what looks good. That’s my job.

The camera is tethered to a monitor or an iPad. You see the images as they come in.
Two reasons.
First, most people carry a mental picture of themselves that’s outdated. Seeing a strong image in real time recalibrates that quickly.
Second, it’s practical. If something isn’t working, we fix it on the spot.
By the time you leave, you already know you have shots you like.
Everyone starts stiff. Every single person.
It resolves itself fast.
You see one frame you like. Your shoulders drop. The next frame is better.
By the time you’d normally start overthinking, we’re already done.
The session ends when we have what we need.
Usually 15 to 20 minutes. Sometimes faster.
I don’t stretch it to make it feel like more.
You leave and go back to your day.
Your proof gallery usually hits your inbox the same day.
These are proofs: color-corrected and narrowed down to the strongest frames, but not retouched.
You look through them. You pick your image.
I retouch that one properly.
If you want a second image, we can do that too.
Most corporate clients use one image. One.
Retouching every frame in a gallery you won’t use is wasted work.
So I focus on the one that matters.
The retouching is clean and natural. You’ll look like yourself- just better lit, better rested, and more put together.
Once you pick your image, I deliver it in the formats you need, from LinkedIn crops, to web versions, and high-resolution files.
Turnaround is usually a day or two.
A corporate headshot is a single-purpose shoot.
One or two clean images. Fifteen to twenty minutes. Done.
A branding session is different. It’s for people who need a full library of images: website, marketing, social media.
Those sessions are longer because the deliverable is bigger.
If you’re not sure which one you need, ask me when you reach out. I’ll tell you.
A good headshot isn’t just a photo.
It’s what shows up when you’re not in the room.
Every time someone looks you up. Every time a client decides whether to trust you. Every time your name is attached to something.
If the photo is bad, they notice.
If it’s good, they don’t think about it. They just trust you more.

How long does a corporate headshot session take?
Fifteen to twenty minutes in the studio. Sometimes faster on location.
When will I get my photos?
The proof gallery is delivered the same day. Final retouched image in a day or two.
Why don’t you retouch the whole gallery?
Because you’re only going to use one image. I focus on making that one right.
How far in advance should I book?
Two to four weeks is typical. If you have a deadline, let me know.
What should I bring?
Two or three wardrobe options. That’s it.
What does it cost?
Pricing is published, not hidden. You can see it directly when you check availability and book.
If you’ve been putting this off, whether it’s an outdated LinkedIn photo, a conference bio, or a website you haven’t launched yet, this is the part where you fix it.
You can check availability, see pricing, and book directly from the site. No back-and-forth. No forms to chase.
And if you’re not ready yet, that’s fine. Take your time. When you’re ready, you’ll know.
