Tilcon New York’s Client Appreciation Day | NYC & NJ Corporate Event Photography

October 29, 2025

When Corporate Events Get It Right

Last week, I photographed Tilcon New York Inc.’s Client Appreciation Day at a stunning waterfront venue overlooking Manhattan, and honestly? It was one of those shoots where everything just clicked. The venue was gorgeous, the people were genuinely having a great time, and the energy was infectious. Let me walk you through what made this event so special.

About Tilcon New York Inc.

Before I dive into the event details, let me give you some context about who Tilcon is – because understanding the company helps explain why this event was so well-executed.

Tilcon New York Inc. is a CRH Company and one of the leading construction materials suppliers in the tri-state area. They’re the people behind the roads, bridges, and infrastructure projects that keep New York and New Jersey moving. We’re talking asphalt, concrete, aggregates, and other essential building materials that go into everything from major highway projects to local road repairs.

What impressed me most wasn’t just the scale of their operation, but how they approach relationships. This wasn’t some massive corporate event with hundreds of people where everyone gets lost in the crowd. This was intimate, thoughtful, and clearly designed to genuinely thank the partners and clients who make their business possible.

When a company in the construction materials industry – not exactly known for flashy events – puts this much effort into celebrating their relationships, you know they’re doing business the right way. And that energy was evident throughout the entire evening.

First Impressions: Liberty State Park and the NYC Skyline

When I arrived at The Liberty House in Liberty State Park, I knew this wasn’t going to be your typical corporate gathering. The waterfront venue offered incredible views – the Manhattan skyline stretched out across the water, with One World Trade Center standing tall in the distance. But what really set the tone was the attention to detail right from the entrance.

Gift bags lined up perfectly under the Tilcon banner, the parking lot full (always a good sign), and you could feel the excitement building even before guests walked in. These are the moments I love capturing – the anticipation before the party really gets started.

Why The Liberty House is Perfect for Corporate Events

I’ve photographed events at dozens of venues across New York and New Jersey, and The Liberty House in Jersey City consistently delivers. Located right on the waterfront at Liberty State Park, this venue offers something that’s hard to find anywhere else – unobstructed views of the Manhattan skyline with the Statue of Liberty nearby.

What makes it especially great for corporate photography is the natural light. Floor-to-ceiling windows throughout the space mean I can shoot beautiful portraits during the day without needing much additional lighting. And that outdoor terrace? It’s a photographer’s dream, especially during golden hour and into the evening when the city lights up.

The venue itself strikes that perfect balance between elegant and approachable. It’s upscale enough to impress clients but not so formal that people feel stiff. The modern architecture with those clean lines and glass walls creates a sophisticated backdrop without overwhelming the photos. The focus stays on the people and the celebration – exactly where it should be.

For companies hosting events in the New York metro area, The Liberty House offers easy access from both New York and New Jersey, with the added bonus of those iconic skyline views that make every photo memorable. Tilcon’s choice of this venue was spot-on for their client appreciation event.

WhistlePig Whiskey and Creative Corporate Cocktails

I’ve photographed corporate events all over New York and New Jersey, but the bar setup at this one was something else. Tilcon partnered with WhistlePig Whiskey, and they weren’t messing around. We’re talking 10-year aged bourbon, 6-year PiggyBack, and some other premium bottles I definitely wouldn’t mind trying myself.

The WhistlePig display was a photographer’s dream – that golden pig mascot, the sleek bottle presentation, everything lit just right. And get this: they had signature cocktails called the “Asphaltini” and “Tilcon Blaster.” I mean, how clever is that? Taking your industry and turning it into a cocktail name? That’s the kind of creative touch that makes events memorable.

Cigars, String Lights, and City Views

As the afternoon turned to evening, the whole vibe shifted. Those string lights came on, the city started glowing in the background, and suddenly we went from a professional networking event to something that felt almost magical.

The branded Tilcon cigars displayed in golden baskets were a nice touch too. I spent some time getting detail shots of these – they’re the kind of images that tell the story of the event’s personality and help showcase the level of thought that went into every element.

Capturing Real Client Connections

Here’s what I’ve learned after years of shooting events in the tri-state area: the best photos come from real moments. And this event had plenty of them.

I captured executives laughing together, long-time business partners catching up, and that genuine warmth that comes from real relationships. In the construction materials industry, relationships aren’t just nice to have – they’re essential. Projects succeed when contractors, suppliers, and clients trust each other. And that trust was visible in every conversation I photographed.

The large team photo I took says it all – you can see in everyone’s faces that this wasn’t just another obligation on their calendar. People actually wanted to be there.

That group shot, by the way, was a fun challenge. Getting 25+ people arranged, making sure everyone’s visible, catching that moment when everyone’s actually smiling at the same time? It’s like herding cats, but when you nail it, it’s so worth it.

Golden Hour to Night Photography in NYC

One of the best parts about this event was the timing. I got to shoot during golden hour – that perfect late afternoon light – and then transition into evening photography with the NYC skyline all lit up.

The daytime shots have this bright, optimistic energy. The venue looks modern and clean, the Hudson River views are crystal clear. Then as night falls, everything gets more intimate. The string lights create this warm glow, the Manhattan skyline becomes dramatic, and even the same people photographed earlier look different in that evening ambiance.

If you’re planning an event, this day-to-night format is something I always recommend. You basically get two different looks in one shoot.

Why Corporate Event Photography Matters for Construction Industry Leaders

Look, I get it. Hiring a professional photographer for a corporate event might seem like an extra expense. But here’s the thing – these photos become marketing gold, especially in industries like construction materials where relationships and trust are everything.

Think about it: Tilcon now has images they can use on LinkedIn, their website, in presentations, for recruitment, in email campaigns… the list goes on. One photoshoot creates content they can use for the next year (or longer).

Plus, and this is important, having professional photos from your events shows potential clients and employees that you’re a company that invests in relationships and knows how to celebrate success. For a company like Tilcon that’s building the infrastructure of the tri-state area, showing that human side matters more than you might think.

What Makes Great Event Photography

After shooting this event, a few things stood out to me as key elements for successful corporate event photography:

Know Your Space – I walked the venue before guests arrived, figured out where the best light was, where people would naturally gather, and where I could get those skyline shots. Location scouting makes all the difference.

Details Tell the Story – Those cigars, the whiskey bottles, the signature drink menu, the gift bags – I photographed all of it. These details complete the narrative of the event and showcase the thought Tilcon put into every element.

Mix Formal and Candid – Some shots are formal and posed (like that big group photo), others are totally candid. You need both. The posed shots are great for official use, but the candid ones? That’s where the real magic happens.

Follow the Light – I’m always chasing good light. During this shoot, I moved from the bright outdoor areas during the day to finding the best-lit spots indoors as evening came. Understanding how light changes throughout an event is crucial.

The Bottom Line

What I loved most about photographing Tilcon’s Client Appreciation Day was that it felt authentic. This wasn’t just a company going through the motions – they genuinely wanted to create a memorable experience for their clients and partners.

And when you’ve got a beautiful venue like The Liberty House overlooking Manhattan, premium drinks, thoughtful details, and people who are actually enjoying themselves? My job becomes pretty easy. I’m just there to capture what’s already happening.
