Collingswood Family Photography at Knight Park | Three Generations Together

When Carly reached out about a family photography session in Collingswood, NJ, she wanted three generations together at Knight Park to celebrate her son’s first year. These multi-generational sessions are some of my favorites. You’re documenting family legacy, not just taking pictures. Watching this family interact throughout the afternoon reminded me exactly why I do this work.

The session started with just Carly and her son. That blue knit hat with the little pom-poms was perfect. We kept things natural and let them just be together. No stiff poses, no “say cheese.” Just a mom holding her baby while he took in everything around him.

About Knight Park in Collingswood

Knight Park is bordered by Park Ave, Collings Ave, and Browning Rd in Collingswood. It’s easy to access with nearby street parking, and the grounds stay well-maintained. What works for family sessions here is the mix of wooded areas and open spaces. You can shoot intimate close-ups and bigger group portraits without bouncing to a second location. The mature trees create clean natural light, especially in late afternoon, which is when we did this session.

Then the grandparents joined us. Grandpa held him with this proud smile, and Grandma kept making sure his little sweater was just right. Three generations together, everyone focused on this little guy.

We got the whole crew in for some wider shots. Parents, uncles, grandparents, all surrounding this little one. The natural greenery at Knight Park keeps the focus exactly where it should be, on the people.

Documentary Approach to Family Sessions

One of Carly’s sisters had her turn with the baby. That genuine smile says everything. This is family, comfortable and real. I kept my distance and documented what was happening. That’s the documentary approach. I’m there to capture what’s actually unfolding, not to manufacture something that doesn’t exist.

The other set of grandparents got their time too. You can tell they’ve done this before, probably with Carly and her siblings years ago. Now they’re doing it again with the next generation.

Getting everyone together for the big group shot is always interesting. Different heights, different energy levels, and making sure everyone’s comfortable. I keep it calm, move quickly, and get clean variations so nobody feels stuck in “photo mode” for long.

Here’s great-grandma with her great-grandson. Four generations in one family. The way she’s holding him, the way she’s looking at him, these photos are going to mean everything as the years go by.

Multi-Generational Family Portraits

Four generations in one frame. Mom, great-grandma, and great-great-grandma together with the baby. When families book sessions specifically to capture moments like this, we slow down enough to get it right.

The full family lineup, from the youngest to the oldest. Getting this many people coordinated isn’t always easy, but when families genuinely want to be there together, it shows.

Dad got his one-on-one time too. They’re both looking right at the camera, and there’s a quiet confidence in how he’s holding his son.

Both parents kissing their son at the same time. This happened naturally, and I was ready for it. You can’t really direct a photo like this. You just have to pay attention and catch it when it unfolds.

All four grandparents together with the baby. These are the photos that end up framed in everyone’s homes.

The bridge at Knight Park gave us a strong spot for the big group lineup. Everyone’s visible, the natural backdrop stays clean, and you get that sense of family connection.

We did several variations on the bridge, different arrangements and a few quick adjustments, so the family had plenty to choose from.

Just the three of them. Mom, dad, and baby. This is what this season of life looked like. Years from now, they’ll look back and remember when their son was this small.

These quieter moments between the bigger group shots are always worth capturing. Just the three of them, close together, in their own little world for a minute.

We ended with something playful. Dad lifting the baby while mom laughs. This is the energy of their family right now.

Knight Park for Multi-Generational Family Photos

Knight Park is an easy win for multi-generational family photos in Collingswood. The backgrounds stay clean, people relax fast, and you can get a full set of portraits without it feeling like a production.

If you’re planning a family session in Collingswood or anywhere in South Jersey and you want it to feel natural, not stiff, that’s how I work. After 30+ years photographing families, I’m paying attention to the in-between moments as much as the “everyone look here” shot. You’ll get calm direction, an efficient session, and a fast turnaround.

I also offer video coverage and content creation, so you can walk away with photos plus a few short clips that feel like real life. Reach out and I’ll send pricing, availability, and a couple location options that fit your family.
