I’m Alex Kaplan, a Headshot Photographer and videographer based in New Milford, NJ, serving Northern.
You know within the first 10 minutes if a corporate event is going to photograph well. At OnePoint BFG Wealth Partners’ wine tasting at their Parsippany, NJ offices, I knew by minute five – the lighting was clean, people actually showed up wanting to be there, and the catering team had set up the food like they were shooting for Bon Appétit. Everything just worked.

From a shooting perspective, their office space was ideal. Modern, clean lines, good natural light even as evening hit, and enough room to move around without bumping into guests. The modern office lighting was actually excellent – those overhead LEDs were around 5000K, close to daylight. Meant I could shoot at 5200K white balance and get natural skin tones without much color correction in post. Small detail, but it saved me hours of editing.
Let’s talk about the catering, because it deserves attention.

Charcuterie boards, bruschetta, prosciutto-wrapped appetizers – all arranged like they were shooting for a magazine. Pro tip: shoot these right when they’re set up, before guests start picking them over. Once people dig in, that pristine styling is gone.
OnePoint BFG is a wealth management firm based in Parsippany, New Jersey, handling financial planning, investments, and retirement strategy. What stood out at this event was how they’ve built actual community around their client base instead of just maintaining transactional relationships.

The “Sip, Savor & Celebrate” signage summed it up well. This felt more like meeting friends at a wine bar than attending a corporate event.

The noi4 Bolgheri DOC 2022 from Tenuta Sette Cieli got a lot of attention. From a photography standpoint, wine pours always work – the lighting catches the liquid perfectly, and you get those rim highlights that add dimension to the shots.
OnePoint BFG partners with ArtLifting, a social enterprise supporting artists affected by disabilities and housing insecurity. The artwork throughout their Parsippany office creates income and opportunities for these artists.

I’ve shot enough corporate events to know the difference between “we’re checking a box” and “we actually care about this.” The ArtLifting partnership? That’s the latter. Most firms would just hang some generic corporate art and call it a day. Using their wall space to create income for artists facing real barriers – that says something about how they think.
This is where corporate event photography gets interesting. The formal portraits are necessary, but the candid networking shots tell the real story.

I shoot these events with a 35mm and a 50mm – gives me enough reach without getting in people’s faces, but wide enough to show context. One thing I always do at networking events: I keep my shutter speed at 1/160 minimum, even if it means bumping ISO to 2000. People move more than they think when they’re talking and gesturing. The slight grain from higher ISO beats motion blur every time.
The key is reading the room and anticipating moments. When you see someone about to laugh or two people deep in conversation, that’s when you shoot.
What I noticed: no one was doing that thing where they check their phone every 30 seconds while pretending to listen. People were leaning in, laughing at the right moments, asking follow-up questions. That’s when you know the networking is real.
About 40 minutes in, I caught something perfect. Two guys who’d been standing on opposite sides of the room suddenly spotted each other – turns out they’d worked together about 15 years ago and hadn’t crossed paths since. That moment of genuine surprise and reconnection, the handshake that turned into a hug? That’s the shot that ended up on OnePoint BFG’s LinkedIn. You can’t stage that kind of authenticity.
The formal program included remarks from OnePoint BFG leadership.

For presentation shots, I position myself to get both the speaker and audience reaction in the frame when possible. Shows the connection rather than just documenting someone at a podium.

Group toasts are tricky – you want to catch that moment when everyone’s glass is up but before it gets messy. I shoot a burst and pick the frame where most people are in sync.
The attendees ranged from young professionals early in their careers to established clients who’ve been working with OnePoint BFG for years. That demographic spread says something about a firm’s staying power in the New Jersey wealth management space.

For group shots, I go for a mix of posed and semi-candid. The fully posed ones work for their marketing materials; the ones where someone’s mid-laugh are usually what people actually want.
The venue worked with me. Clean backgrounds, good lighting, space to move around.
The pacing was right. Cocktail hour, short program, back to mingling. Keeps energy up and gives me variety.
They trusted the process. Here’s something I wish more companies understood: the best event photos happen when you don’t micromanage them. OnePoint BFG trusted me to move around and capture what was happening instead of staging everything. That trust is why their photos look natural instead of stiff.
OnePoint BFG knows how to host an event that serves multiple purposes – client appreciation, networking, and team visibility. And as a photographer, they created an environment that worked well on camera.
If you’re planning a corporate event, client appreciation evening, or company celebration in New Jersey or the greater New York metro area, let’s talk about your photography needs. I work with wealth management firms, financial advisors, and professional services companies throughout New Jersey, including Parsippany, Morristown, and the surrounding areas.
What you get:
The goal isn’t just documentation – it’s capturing the energy of your event and giving you images that actually reflect what happened. If your company wants event photos that look natural, polished, and people-focused, that’s exactly what I deliver.
Your guests won’t remember the PowerPoint. They’ll remember the moment someone made them laugh, the conversation that turned into a business opportunity, or the colleague they hadn’t seen in five years. My job is making sure you have those moments documented.
