Most people don’t realize this, but your headshot is often the first decision people make about you.
Before a meeting. Before a conversation. Before they even hear your voice.
For professionals searching for executive headshots in NYC, that image appears on LinkedIn, company leadership pages, press features, and speaking profiles, often before a single word is exchanged.
An executive headshot is not just a portrait.
It is part of how your leadership is perceived.
At Alex Kaplan Photo, professionals across New York City rely on headshots that communicate confidence, clarity, and approachability without feeling staged.
With more than 30 years of experience and over 620 five-star Google reviews, I help executives walk away with images they feel confident using across every platform.
If your current headshot no longer reflects the level you operate at today, it may be time to update it.
Executive Headshots NYC That Shape First Impressions
First Impressions
What Is an Executive Headshot?
While similar to corporate headshots, executive portraits place a stronger emphasis on presence, authority, and trust.
In NYC, these images are commonly used for:
- LinkedIn profiles and leadership bios
- Company websites and executive team pages
- Media features and press coverage
- Conference speaking engagements
- Investor presentations and business materials
Because these images often represent you before any direct interaction, they influence how others perceive your professionalism and credibility.

Why Executive Headshots Matter in NYC
What Happens During
“I’m not comfortable in front of the camera.”
That is completely normal.
The process at Alex Kaplan Photo is designed to help you feel comfortable quickly so your photos look natural rather than staged.
Before your session, you will receive clear guidance on wardrobe, preparation, and what to expect.
During the session, I use a relaxed, conversational approach that helps you settle into the process without pressure.
Instead of rigid posing, subtle direction helps create confident posture and natural expressions.
The goal is not to create a “perfect” image.
It is to create a professional portrait that reflects how you lead on your best day.
What Happens During an Executive Headshot Session
STUDIO VS LOCATION
Executive headshots can be done in a studio setting or at your office, depending on your preference and schedule.
Studio vs. On-Location Executive Headshots
Studio Headshots
This approach allows for efficient scheduling while maintaining consistency across all images.
On-Location Sessions
WHAT TO WEAR
In general, solid colors such as navy, charcoal, and neutral tones photograph best and keep the focus on your expression.
Avoid busy patterns or overly bright colors that may distract from your presence.
Your clothing should reflect how you would present yourself in an important meeting or leadership setting.
Many clients bring a few options to create subtle variation during the session.
